Bethesda Rules Having previous played Morrowind and Oblivion I was scepticle if this game would be that great. But there is need to to worry, this game delivers. While the main quest may look short, the side quests make up for it. The game play is similar to Oblivion in some ways, but different in others. Mellee combat will feel very familiar, fast traveling is still in the game as well. The big difference is leveling up. You gain experience points until you reach the next level. You spend points on skills and choose a perk. The game caps off at level 20 making some enemies still very hard, but I believe that an expansion pack will include new levels, perks, enemies, and area to explore. The game has improved greatly on Oblivions' load times and doesn't freeze as often during gameplay. If you liked Oblivion or Morrowind you will probably feel right at home in this game.
Fallout 3 Collector's Edition The game itself is brilliant, keep me awake at night for days.. it stays true to the original Fallout material, while expanding on the world creatively..
It plays very smoothly on my Vista 64bit machine after applying the first patch from Bethesda.
Still has a couple of bugs, but Bethesda has promised a couple of more patches to come out soon..
However the Collector's Edition freebies is a bit disappointing.. no posters, no soundtrack audio CDs, and the DVD itself is in a normal, Games for Windows soft plastic CD casing, put into the Lunch Box. I was hoping that for the premium price we pay, it would be in a special casing of some sort in the Lunch Box.
The metal lunchbox does not feel durable at all. Definitely wont survive a nuclear holocaust!
Finally the Vault Boy Bobblehead nicely done, but feels like a McDonald's toy, just a bit bigger.
I've got collector editions of other games, and Fallout 3 Collector's Edition seems to fall short to me. (The Singapore release of Red Alert 3 for example, has a limited numbered metal casing, with free Red Alert designed LAPTOP BAG, 2 posters, audio CD, making DVD etc, for similar price to Fallout 3's collector edition). I think Bethesda should give more collector items to make the Collector Edition worthwhile for their fans.
However it is a very enjoyable game anyway, and for that I will give it a 5 out of 5

Choices Where do I start...perhaps when your character is born. It's truly a game worth playing, one way or another. The artwork, voice acting, action sequences, and the millions of variations you can do in the game is worth the money. There are minor differences in the game from the previous ones in the series. You do not travel from place to place via map on the screen. You literally walk from where you are, to an unexplored area. All usable items worn over time will deteriorate and repairing is necessary for those. The VATS system implements the aiming system from it's predecessors quite nicely. Don't think just because you can pause the game and aim at a body part that it will land. I've had many attempts and both succeeded and then others...miss completely and caused a nice chunk of damage to be brought to me. And being able to good and bad in a game at the same time really can make you enjoy. Where else can you give water to beggars but then blow the head off of the town leaders, or turn people into slaves, but disarm a bomb to save a town.
Open ended / sandbox is the icing on this cake...you want to be level 3 and fight a Super Mutant Behemoth, go right ahead. You want to play a game where you can eat a corpse in front of the whole town, have at it. The choices YOU can make go on and on.
